the hard drive is gone.
the hard drive I’ve had for 15 years, and held every single backup i’ve ever had for music. every music session since 2012 ‘lex was on there.
Over the course of my injury, I had shucked it from an external drive and run it as a “server” in my basement, which was just a PC I never turned off that I would access from other PCs in my house.
The spinning head snapped off and scratched up the platters. I can pay $2000 for an almost 0% chance of recovering any data.
It’s gone. I did have a fewwwws things elsewhere, but over the injury period I was decentralizing and taking stuff off of Google Drive and Dropbox to put it on the hard drive. Really stupid shit. The only shit I have left is the stuff I was currently working on, and the shit I missed when deleting stuff off of my cloud storage.
Thankfully show footy was on its own hard drive, and map was my game dev stuff. But the music is gone.
There’s some philosophical shit to consider, as it came shortly after I worked on and completed the YV Anthology, and pulled all of the songs I thought were evergreen off of it. I ‘finished’ the anthology and kept finding more work to do. The universe wanted me to move on.
It’s unfortunate for all of the 24+ studio clients who didn’t keep their own copies or whatever, but nowhere in my agreement to take $20 for hours of work did I promise a contingency plan for a decade later, lol.
Another rapper hit me up shortly after this that his laptop crapped out and he’s trying to piece together all his old shit through other people. I have much more faith in his data recovery than mine.
Sorry it’s been a little quiet on the music front. Works been crazy & my spare time has gone towards other things. I built a modded ps2 for a friend and launched straitjacket.pro where I shot my first pro wrestling show last Saturday.
Music wise, I have a group mixtape that was on pause til collaborations get their shit in this month, as well as the dirtmob project that I’ve been procrastinating. There’s also a few ideas for the next Stay Tuned set but it might end up being an impulse recording in whatever I’m feelin like the last 2.
