anthology work continues dragging along. a lot of songs finished, a lot of songs not, and a lot of tracklisting (which i’ll get to first)
previous post mentioned that ‘punkwave rap’ aka ‘weird rap’ was one of the 4 pillars, and it has now been delegated to a side thing that i’ll work on separately.
the replacement pillar for that one is codenamed ‘darkpop’, which is more emo-trap. i also realized i can rename ‘punkwave’ to ‘thrash’, which is a brand i built for that sound and i’m an idiot for not changing it sooner.
Each pillar has now been shrunken down to 6 songs each. i’ve also come to realize that I only ever put 24 songs up on the YV Spotify, which lines up 1:1, except I’m swapping out some of the shittier Spotify songs with some SoundCloud/YT/IG exclusives and unreleased’s.
Pinkwave: 5/6 complete
- This tracklist has gone through a lot of flux, with some of the main ones I worked on getting moved to ‘Darkpop’. The last song to finish is Selfish, which is one of my favourites, but I have to axe some of the ‘I have enough hoes already’ lines into ‘I got a girl at home already’ and shit like that.
‘Hard’: 3/6 complete
- Gotta take the hook from Bihh and take the more flamboyant takes down into a double layer. I added an amazing verse from an old feature on here though so it’ll be worth the wait.
- Stripes needs some TLC. You can tell I start to die around the end of the verse when I go from a cohesive theme to… quote… ‘cum on my dick’. Little excessive there.
- Final track has been getting swapped in and out. I love the beat for ‘they think I look gay freestyle’ but… they don’t think I look gay anymore, and that punchline is IMPOSSIBLE to rewrite. Half of the verse is also ass. I’ve tried rewriting it 400 times but I might just drop it into the fire under the pretense that there’s no way to modernize it.
Thrash: 4/6 complete
- Plans are set for this. The final 2 songs have great hooks and shite verses, and I have the verses to fill them in via dicing up other songs.
‘Darkpop’: 3/6 complete
- 2 have been rewritten/rerecorded and just need some slight touchups on a few bars. 1 needs pretty much an entire rewrite.
So, this has been pretty hectic. It feels really close to being done. With my potential return-to-work being July 2nd, I’d love to clean all of this up and have it ready by then. I’ve been so busy with life and all of this insurance and lawyer and HR and appointments with 8 different medical practitioners that I’m just ready for all of this to be over and to go back to normal.
I had time to re-find my love for my hobbies and prepare systems to remove friction in engaging with them. The basement, the home server, the website, and even reconnecting with friends… I’ve set myself up properly in my personal life to move forward.
I’m nervous career wise that I just spent 4 months recovering in the most inconvenient time in history of the industry/company/project/universe, but I’d like to think that everyone knows how fucking badly I’ve wanted to be there and how much I love that fucking job.
