june27th,26 – rat race

Mesage I sent this morning:

Something you might find interesting re: music and the social media rat race:

I’ve spent 2 months creating the YV Anthology (one big compilation album out of all of the Young Vercetti shit worth it’s weight, changing out some cringe bars & stuff that doesn’t align with me as a person anymore)

I just finished the final arangement, and it’s 1 hour and 22 minutes. That is FIVE YEARS of music, including features, unreleased, skeletons I finally brought to life, everything. It’s 24 tracks. My entire Young Vercetti Spotify was only 24 tracks and 9 of these are swap outs for songs that suck and should have never been released lol.

All of this context to say, I got ONE FULL LENGTH ALBUM that I’m happy with out of that entire 5 years of work. Wanna guess why? Cuz I was too busy taking fucking selfies and picking fonts and all that dumbass shit that isn’t actually making music.

Like 20 years ago, it would take a ‘real artist’ 2 years in the studio to make something an hour long that they’re proud of, and the big promo they’d have to do is running shows. Obv the world is different today and you gotta do more, but I feel like I still woulda been better off not partaking in any of the rat race and just doing it the old way. I mean, touring did more for me than social media ever did anyways, so I guess 2 of the 5 years weren’t that much social media rat race, but still.

This Anthology is doper than the entire Young Vercetti chronicle ever was in pieces. I lost 3/5 years of my previous peak on views and streams and I spent 2/5 of those years paying my rent with music via shows. Big perspective going into the next phase.

Food for thought. Good morning y’all
