Do y’all remember the Felle and ImJustJim shoots? They were pilots for this project I had called ‘Stay Tuned’.
It’s just live music shoots with full video & sound production. It was fun and it was dope content.
I’ve assembled multiple bands and multiple sets from multiple musicians, but it never pans out. And it’s expensive. And people suck.
So, fuck it. I’m just gonna start doing it myself.
I’ve been working on the basement and on playing instruments.
I hate the ‘unfinished basement ceiling’, and the camera has 4 burnt pixels, but it’s a start.
I still can’t play guitar/bass/keys like I used to (maybe due to car accident but probably due to being out of practice), but it’s a start.
I have 2 cameras, I wanna mount one to that central wooden beam on a claw&ball mount so that I can use it for birdseye on drums and also turn it to 45 degrees for a back cam. I also want a third for handcam/wildcard angle.
Besides the 3 cam band stuff, I’m also working on an alternative camera setup that’s more ‘On The Radar’ style for my rap shit. Main focus is instruments right now but I have soooo many verses I need to crush.
I’ll likely be posting a lot of stuff before the setup is ‘finished’, and probably just keep it contained here until the big reveal (when I can actually hit the set front to back without issue)
So this was the first day I started recording my daily sets.
I switched to my other camera that doesn’t have dead pixels and I reframed the shot.
I also brought down a bench and a couch to sit down on just out of camera, that’ll help in studio or when jamming with others.
Audio quality dramatically improves between Vid1 and 2 as I’ve added my Rode NT2A mic recording to the live set setup (which also has a Halo for sound control, which blocks out my HVAC noise pretty well).
welp, got camera 2 mounted with a claw & ball mount Jonah had from his GoPro. however i can’t run EOS Utility twice on one PC.
…which is fine, I’ll connect it to my laptop off screen, but, I’m gonna need a 2nd memory card, a longer USB Mini cable to reach the laptop from the ceiling.
Framing Cam2 is also a bitch. I’m thinking to get a Canon T3I with the rotating screen as the third cam in my fleet, but it shoots in higher resolution which is gonna make me wanna upgrade my other 2. BAH.
//I think shooting in 720p is kind of like… untapped market. Everyone wants to do VHS nostalgia, flip phone nostalgia, and webcam nostalgia, but nobody is doing ‘2010s youtube’ nostalgia yet on this scale.
Anyways, May22 set was out of focus, May 24 the memory card got full 22 seconds into filming (I have audio but meh), and May23 set was pretty awful, so I’ll leave those on the hard drive unless I get bored.
I think the set is solid enough now to stat uploading in full instead of chopping into highlights.
I did fuck up Reach Out To You, and Why Would I Lie intro is rough. Some guitar and vocal flubs in there. Cam autofocus failed.
I cut out 24h and I’m Right Where I Should Be as they aren’t ready for primetime yet.
Also 2nd cam isn’t up and running yet. I have an Amazon order coming tomorrow with SD cards, dummy batteries, and longer USB Mini cables to be able to run both cams at once. //Also considering putting a fisheye lens on back cam but let’s get it working first.
Starting to see the end of this first video. Next one after this would probably be an OTR rap set or a Reddd&Black set.
So uhh, daily sets kinda died. I did multiple in a row with tech issues and/or just regression of performance. I was getting really frustrated, and I also had some other shit to work on music-wise for once so I kinda fell off of it. I’m still practicing every few days off camera.
There have been some basement upgrades though. The back view camera has been mounted better to the beam and I have dummy batteries for both cams, as well as a better spot to set up main cam. The back hanging banners are now stabled into the wood on the far back wall giving me an extra foot of space back there.
Next basement upgrades will likely be getting better false-walls than the cardboard, and a third camera (as back cam really doesn’t work for Cam2, its better as the tertiary.)
