june11,26 – anthology update

anthology project is going fucking sick.

incase u missed the last post, anthology was this crazy hard drive deep dive where i’m hoping to remix/remaster all the useful YV songs.

Again, I hate the naming conventions of these and will figure it out soon, but here’s what I’ve pulled so far:

Pinkwave

10 pop-trap songs singin my face off. 6 have been ‘finished’ as far as rewrites/rerecording/restructuring, and the last 4 are giving me some troubles. There’s also 7 songs I’ve put to the side to interpolate into future projects as they have small pieces I like but weren’t worth salvaging as a whole.

Pinkwave ‘Rap’

10 hard ass trap songs that lean more on the mainstream side. These are pretty much everything I blew up off. 6 are updated good to go, and 4 are givin me a bit of trouble but I’ll figure it out.

Punkwave

8 tracks, all of them are gonna need some work, I have some old features n stuff on reserve I’ll use to get the tape up to 10 tracks but it’s a lot of garbage in this vein.

Punkwave ‘Rap’

this denomination is kinda just wrong… this set is kinda just the ‘outlier rap’, all the weird shit that doesn’t fit ‘mainstream’ vibe. weird beats, weird bars, weird melodies. I have 10 tracks here, 2 have been updated, 8 need work.

dirtmob

so I found this folder called ‘dirtmob’ and it’s essentially all of the songs I wrote once I reached the level of skill in guitar to be able to write shit like Summer Time Him & I Jus Wanna Be Cool For You, but this was like the first ones I did like that. I was also experimenting with the sound that would eventually become Luzir, so it’s guitar with hip hop drum soundkits & 808s and stuff. Now that Luzir has been massaged into something proper, I’ve stripped everything off of these songs except the guitar, I’ve programmed realistic drums over them, and I’m prepping to rewrite all the vocals. This is 12 tracks, and it looks like this could be my first ‘full band’ album after a dozen years dreaming of that feat. I’m in love with it so far too.

homebrew beattape

I managed to find adjacent folders to the dirtmob ones that contained some early sample beats that sound veeeeery Luzir, and sometimes better than Luzir tbh. I remastered them and I’ve got a 6 track beattape ready to drop soon, jus have some quantizing issues with one or two of the tracks I wanna iron out before dropping it. This set of songs I was trudging around was also what got Like A Loser updated and dropped a few days ago, as that song was the first one I ever ‘hit’ the sound correctly enough.

this has been some of the fucking coolest & most fun times I’ve had with music in a while, but it’s also very stressful. My nose is stuck in this shit almost every waking hour except when I manage to pull away to hang wit my gf for a bit

It’s been a grueling week mentally. Rewrites that skew too boombappy, or transposing melodies from one verse over onto a different beat and it being ‘correct’ musically but sounding wrong cuz my head is stuck in another key and everyone else is saying it sounds good so idk if I’m just stuck in the old sound or if I’m actually hearing it as objectively bad.

Not to mention the data side; recategorizing songs from folder to folder being unsure if they classify as ‘punkwave rap’ or ‘punkave’ and shit like that lol. Also a journey of spelunking the hard drive trying to find ‘untitled_Insert 10_REC_469’ and there being multiples, or doing hard drive recovery trying to find project files I accidentally axed that got overwritten by PNGs so I manually go in and hand edit the hexdata trying to uncorrupt the files and shit.

It’s been insane. It’s been extremely overwhelming some days, but others (like today) I’ve felt like I’m making real progress. Dirtmob is ready to write & record over, the Pinkwave volumes are almost done, I just bounced Punkwave track out of an old Kanye remix verse.

YV not being an era I just bury underground anymore and actually getting to celebrate it and not hide from it is going to be extremely freeing and I feel as if it’ll help me in the long run padding out that timeline of experience here for any future convos or needs regarding that side of me musically. It’s been kind of a stain for a few years as I think back to like, the worst of the worst, and being able to highlight the ups while ironing out the downs is really cathartic.

I’m done rambling, good morning y’all <3
